Navigating Now & Beyond: Helping autistic people into work (Autistica)

By Jake Mackey, Autistica

Many autistic adults find it difficult to get jobs, keep jobs or reach their full potential in the workplace. Just 16% are in full time work. But we know that many have real talent and passion for games. More than three times as many autistic people work in games than in other sectors. That’s why as an industry, it’s important to understand how to recruit, support and retain diverse talent.

LOLS10在线直播下注Our research project DARE (Discover Autism Research & Employment) aims to work with companies to gather evidence of what works and what doesn’t for autistic employees and employers. We’re developing best practice guides that will help companies to create a more diverse and inclusive industry.

Here are a few resources which might be helpful in becoming more accommodating to neurodiversity and managing during these challenging times:

  • - simple narrative game to help people understand DARE in a different format (password: autistica)
  • - useful resources about autism and employment associated with the project and the lead researchers
  • - guide to adjustments that employers can make to ensure that autistic people are comfortable and supported at work.
  • - information to help employers  understand the challenges that autistic employees may be facing right now.
